TUXEDO RESIDENCE

The Tuxedo Residence is a single-family home located in the Tuxedo neighbourhood of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The design was shaped by the owners’ desire for a mid-century modern home and by the site’s densely treed lot. The house was strategically positioned to preserve as much of the mature landscape as possible, creating the feeling of being nestled within a park-like setting and fostering a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces.

The house is organized around two interlocking volumes—one private and one public—connected by a shared, light-filled gallery. The private volume contains the bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry, and two separate two-car garages located at either end. The public volume includes a formal dining room, an open living space, a central kitchen and eating area, and a home office. This volume projects south into the landscape, opening to nature on both the east and west sides, while solid walls are strategically placed to provide privacy from neighbouring properties.

The lower level is programmed around a central gallery and includes a wine room, music room, family room, gym, and steam and sauna facilities. It is accessed via a high-quality, handcrafted stair that connects the lower level to the main-floor gallery.

The home is characterized by a clean mid-century modern aesthetic, featuring heated polished concrete floors, stacked-bond masonry, floor-to-ceiling glazing, and wood finishes throughout. Overall, the residence reflects a thoughtful curation of the owners’ collection, a high level of craftsmanship by the contractor, and a careful balance between architecture and landscape that respects the historic character of the neighbourhood.
