MUSE FLATS

The project is a 14-storey mixed-use development located at 290 Colony Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The building contains 119 mixed-income residential units, including affordable, market, and premium housing units.

The ground floor features three commercial spaces located at the corners of the site, with street-level parking discreetly tucked beneath and behind the building. Additional ground-level amenities include indoor bicycle storage and central office space. Building amenities are located on the 10th floor and include a multi-purpose room, a music room, and a rooftop terrace with lounge and barbeque areas, offering views of downtown Winnipeg and overlooking the Winnipeg Art Gallery rooftop sculpture garden.

Architecturally, the building is defined by a one-storey glass podium housing the commercial spaces, above which a “bundle” of five residential towers appears to twist around a central core containing circulation and two additional mechanical floors. This twisting form is reinforced by diagonally organized windows that frame dynamic views of the city. The tower configuration increases the number of corner units while creating varied and engaging perspectives of the surrounding context.

Developed in collaboration with Los Angeles–based Michael Maltzan Architecture, Michael Acht was the Partner in Charge from the project’s pursuit in 2016 through its completion in 2021 while at Cibinel Architecture.
